Sales intelligence and permit data for building-products teams

Why I built this

Building permits serve a dual purpose. They are a broad economic indicator for a city's growth, but more importantly, they are a vital source of raw business leads. An electrical subcontractor can use them to establish relationships with active general contractors, while a roofing or HVAC supplier might rely on them to find new customers and identify exactly where to focus their distribution efforts. The fundamental problem with utilizing this information is fragmentation. Every single city and county operates its own permit system with its own unique terminology. To bridge that gap, we built dozens of custom connectors to pull this scattered information together. We normalize the messy, localized records from the ground up, allowing teams to access all of that incredibly valuable data in a single, clean format.

About PermitCore

PermitCore provides sales intelligence for building-products teams by transforming raw municipal permit records into structured, searchable data. The company helps equipment manufacturers, distributors, and specialty contractors identify which construction firms are actively pulling permits in their specific territories. By parsing 23,398,188 filings across 35 United States metros, the platform enables sales representatives to find relevant projects the week they are permitted. The database spans 9 commercial segments and tracks real project value, allowing teams to reach out to the right buyers before competitors do. The core challenge in utilizing municipal construction records is the inconsistency of the source material. Unlike generic data aggregators that rely on basic keyword matching to guess the nature of a project, the system reads actual permit fields to accurately classify work into highly specific segments. A record filed for rooftop unit replacements is cleanly categorized as commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning work rather than a generic alteration. When fields do not support a confident classification, the platform labels the record as unclassified rather than forcing a wrong segment to pad its numbers. The platform clearly details its data sources and openly flags missing information to maintain trust. Every individual permit in the system is joined to its corresponding tax lot and geocoded with confidence scores, allowing users to see complete building details rather than just isolated street addresses. The enrichment process automatically surfaces zoning classifications, lot areas, the year the structure was built, and the total number of units. The pipeline also estimates technical specifications like roof areas and expected cooling loads for each property. The software organizes this information into tailored views for specific industries, ensuring that a commercial sign installer only sees relevant signage permits while a pool builder tracks both residential and commercial pool starts. Users can evaluate exactly which regions are fully tracked by checking the coverage map. Sales teams can filter their target market down to a specific segment and city through the markets explorer, instantly generating a ranked list of contractors based on reliable project value and 90-day momentum. Representatives can set up automated watches to receive daily email alerts the moment fresh filings land in their territory. For developers and enterprise operations, the company offers an application programming interface and bulk data exports in Parquet or CSV formats that integrate directly into existing workflows. Users evaluating the tool can read an honest comparison against competitors to understand the distinct advantages of its classification methodology. In addition to its core sales intelligence tools, the company publishes original research analyzing broader trends within the construction permit corpus. These reports measure everything from processing timelines across 130 jurisdictions to the shifting volumes of residential solar installations in specific cities. Every published figure includes the classification precision and admission rate behind it, giving analysts a transparent view into the methodology. The service operates on a transparent, self-serve pricing model that starts at $89 per month for a professional tier, eliminating the need for mandatory sales calls to access the underlying intelligence.
