Why I built this

Virtually every startup we see at ScOp VC is an AI company. To properly understand this shift, I wanted to experience firsthand exactly how modern software is being built and what AI coding is all about. GovBidAlerts became the project to teach me. Beyond my own education, there was a highly practical use case. We have investments in about thirty companies, and government contracts are a great source of potential business for them. The hurdle is extreme fragmentation, as there are thousands of different sources and portals for these bids. Using AI, I was able to create a system that cuts through that noise. It automatically matches a business's specific products or services with tens of thousands of contracts across thousands of government agencies, solving a real distribution problem for our portfolio while giving me a practical education in AI development.

About GovBidAlerts

GovBidAlerts is a search and alerting platform that centralizes public sector opportunities to help businesses find relevant government contracts, bids, and requests for proposals. The platform aggregates open solicitations from across the federal, state, local, and international levels into a centralized, searchable feed. By consolidating fragmented procurement data, the system allows contractors to stop manually monitoring multiple separate government websites and portals. The platform monitors more than 2,400 procurement sources to maintain a directory of over 126,000 open contracts and bids. Its coverage spans all 50 states and more than 3,900 jurisdictions in the United States, alongside multilateral development banks and national open-contracting portals across more than 30 countries. The system ingests listings from systems like the federal contract registry, state procurement marketplaces, and local municipalities. It normalizes inconsistent notices and formats into comparable records, enabling businesses to examine the public market and research historical pricing and award data. To help vendors better understand public sector terminology, the site also offers an extensive contracting glossary and resources to learn about the bidding process. To filter the massive volume of public sector work, the platform utilizes artificial intelligence to evaluate each solicitation against a user profile. When users create an account, the system can automatically read their business website to identify the specific products and services they offer. These offerings are translated into vector embeddings, and new opportunities are matched based on semantic similarity. A language model then assigns a personalized fit score from 0 to 100 by analyzing the scope and requirements found within the underlying solicitation documents. Users can manage their selected opportunities through an integrated pipeline tracking tool to help coordinate their bidding efforts. Users can access the core directory to search for opportunities categorized by market or browse available bids organized by geographic location entirely for free. The basic tier allows users to maintain 1 product profile and track up to 10 opportunities at no cost. For businesses seeking advanced capabilities, the platform offers paid subscription tiers starting at $41 per month. The premium plans unlock unlimited product profiles, automated deadline reminders, comprehensive email alerts, and artificial intelligence tools that generate rapid summaries of complex request for proposal documents. Larger organizations can also upgrade to a team plan for $124 per month, which introduces a shared workspace and the ability to assign specific opportunities to individual team members. Access requires an account which can be created through a passwordless sign in process using an email link.
